Polar Bear Pitching takes place in Oulu, Finland next week – follow the live stream here
Polar Bear Pitching is a pitching competition, a business conference and the most outrageous show seen in this context. Polar Bear Pitching has grown around the competition where startups pitch their ideas to investors from an ice hole carved in the frozen Baltic sea. There is no time limit, but the temperature during the competition can be as cold as -30 Celsius. Enough to make the competitors want to keep their pitches from the ice hole short.
Polar Bear Pitching semi-finals will be held on the 12thof March and the finals on the 13thin Oulu, Finland. If you can’t make it to Oulu anymore, there will be a professional, tv quality live stream from the event. Everyone is welcome to watch the stream and feel the chill. The idea of Polar Bear Pitching rose from the need to crystallize the message of entrepreneurs. So how to make people talk fast and efficiently? Make them speak from an ice hole during the Finnish winter. The competition is also an embodiment of sisu, the Finnish mentality of not giving up in any situation and pushing forward even when the odds are against you. There will be a lot of arctic experiences available for the audience such as ice sculptures, reindeer rides and pond hockey.
Polar Bear Pitching has grown to be a globally known event that draws startups from all over the world. This year will be a special one, since there will be a celebration of the Oulu-Hangzhou sister city collaboration. As a symbol of this connection between east and west, a massive gate made of ice will be built on Oulu market square.
In addition to the pitching competition, there will be a conference focusing on three major themes, leadership, creativity and technology.
