The final event of Polar Bear Pitching kicked off with the world champion of Air Guitar, Markus “Black Raven” Vainionpääplaying Finnish metal by the Ice hole. Before the competitors the minister of foreign Trade and Development Kai Mykkänen also took a dip telling about how the startup environment has developed throughout the years.
All the 12 finalists from all over the world gave incredible pitches. ArtiSun, won the main prize of 10 000 euros. ArtiSun produces LED lights that optimize plant growth. The winner was chosen according to their business potential and pitching performance.
The top three won a trip to Nan Jing, which is known as the Silicon Valley of China. Cotio and CastPrint got the second and third place. Cotio found a way for everyone to get back the stuff that were confiscated from them at airports and CastPrint produces 3D-printed solutions to fraction injury patients.
Kimmo Collander from Cotio spent the longest time in the ice hole. He endures the freezing water for a bit more than 4 minutes.
Polar Bear Pitching gathers already for the fifth time entrepreneurs, investors and media from around the world to Oulu on 6. - 7.02. The event is known for its finals where entrepreneurs pitch from an ice hole outdoors. During the two days there will also be a conference, evening parties and a winter spa village open to everyone.
